FAQ
I feel it is appropriate to address the elephant in the massage room. What I offer here is 100% professional legal massage services, to attempt to aid in healing, if you are looking for anything other than that you are in the wrong place and I suggest you continue your search. Do not call to inquire about ANY illicit services as they are not on offer here; if, in my office, any inappropriate advances are made, the session will stop immediately and I will likely report you to HPD as attempting to solicit prostitution is a felony.
Do I have to take everything off?
It depends on the type of massage you are receiving. Typically, with table massage you will be asked to remove all clothing, but you will be covered the entire time, only exposing the body part being massaged. If you are not comfortable removing everything you can keep undergarments on, but the majority of clothing should be removed. Draping is required in this office.
John Barnes Myofascial Release is done with a minimum of clothing preferably sports bra and short or 2 pc swimsuit for women and boxer briefs/shorts or swimsuit for men. It is imperative that I be in contact with the skin, this is a very gentle technique that must be skin to skin contact or I will just be dragging your clothes around.
Thai Yoga Bodywork Is done clothed, without exception, you can easily become chilled lying on the floor and it is difficult to keep a blanket on you during this treatment. It is best to wear what you would wear to a yoga class or to workout. I find it best to wear long sleeve cotton shirt and long pants. Whatever the material, the item should move with you so that you can be easily moved around, you don't want to bind in your clothing and miss out on a good stretch. Undergarments-Ideally you should feel comfortable, women should not wear a bra that has any metal or clasps that can dig into the skin or a sports bra that is too constricting. The idea is for the body tissues to move naturally.
All Mobility sessions will be clothed, please wear something like exercise clothes that will move easily
Last time I got a massage the therapist hurt me.
Sometimes massage does hurt, that cannot always be helped. This is your massage and we want you to enjoy it, but no massage therapist is a mind reader, wiggling and squirming, or even the occasional 'ouch' will not tell a therapist you have had too much. If you do not tell the therapist that their pressure is uncomfortable they cannot make the changes you want. Please do not lie there and just suffer through hoping it will get better, it likely will not.
If you say something and nothing changes you are within your right to terminate the service at that point.
In my massage room, when I ask how the pressure is, fine or okay are not appropriate responses. I honestly want to know what changes I can make to make the pressure perfect, I don't know what you are feeling, and nothing is more frustrating to a therapist to have a person leave saying "yeah, it was alright".
What is the difference between Swedish and deep tissue? Do I need deep tissue?
Swedish massage consists of the four basic types of massage strokes that all therapists use, effleurage (flushing), petrissage (squeezing), friction and tapotement (cupping/clapping). All of these strokes can be used with varying pressure from light to firm. Swedish massage gets a bad reputation from bad/lazy therapists or people wanting to up the price for heavy pressure. Deep tissue massage is just what it says, its a bit slower, allowing the muscle fibers to release in their own time and not fight back. This slower pace allows the therapist to access deeper tissues closer to the bone. The pressure may seem heavier because the therapist is usually using more elbow or finger tip pressure (versus forearm and whole hand) so the sensation is much more intense.
Some people absolutely need it, but not everyone will like deep tissue massage. Please do not feel you must try it because someone else told you thats what you need, especially if this is your first massage. This is why the therapist does an intake to find out what kind of massage YOU want. Unlike other massage establishments I do not charge an up charge for deep tissue. I do this because quite often someone might need some deep work but not an entire bodies worth, so I do it where it needs only.
I'm pregnant, can I have a massage?
Yes, you can! And a great one at that. I offer face down massage all the way up until the day your baby arrives. Certain point on the body should be avoided but you can have as close to whatever massage you are used to, and not have to sacrifice.
How do I pay, and should I tip?
I accept all forms of payment- cash, all digital payments or charge. If you prefer to use cash or a digital payment (Zelle, PayPal, Venmo or Cashapp) select pay in office, but everyone must enter a credit card to book or pay in advance.
Tipping is greatly appreciated but completely optional.
Can I file on my medical insurance?
Massage is sometimes covered by medical insurance. I do not do insurance billing or coding, but I can issue an invoice for therapeutic massage that you can use when filing yourself. You can us your HSA card for you all services as I have been approved, including monthly subscriptions, but for some insurance you cannot use it for a massage package.
My Massage session/package is over a year old, can I still use it?
Yes, all Gift Certificates are valid for one year at full purchase value, after one year a service fee of $5 per month will be assessed until the balance is zero. For discount packages, after one year they will revert to cash value and you will be responsible for the balance.
